Here at ShowBiz Ireland we like to think we are 'down with the kids' and 'hip' to the latest trends... That was until we attended an Under 18's dance event in Tallaght last week called 'Revolution' - we suddenly found ourselves smack-bang in the middle of The Eighties! Say it aint so...

For most people The Eighties is decade best forgotten by fashion. Flock of Seagulls fringes, leg warmers, luminous colours, stretchy fabrics, men in full make-up, Katchagoogoo... Yes, Katchagoogoo.

Then we attended Ireland's biggest ever under 18's event at the National Basketball Arena at the weekend, and were confronted with the latest threads and trends being worn by Ireland's teenagers.

The 'Revolution' concert event was set up by the lads over at Bubble Hits and it certainly was a hit with the teenagers at the sold-out gig. With hot acts such as Booty Luv (former Big Brovaz), Luciana, and the UK's current Number One - Basshunter, it was a high energy and alcohol free outing...

Normally at concerts, we don't usually snap the audience as once you've seen one crowd, you've seen them all...

But we've not seen a crowd like this since 1983 - and how could we miss them? With the girls decked-out from head-to-toe in day-glo pink, yellow, green and blue... Leg warmers, hot pink eye shadow - it was frightening folks.

Now, we're not going to knock the kids for this fashion deviation, as it might have been a retro night or an insider joke we weren't aware of... But please. Say it aint so. We can't take another decade of luminous lycra and lots and lots of spandex.

It was great to see a major under 18's event like Revolution going-down in Dublin, giving the younger generation a safe environment to party without the stigma of booze. But after witnessing hundreds of hyper teenagers dressed in day-glo for over 3 hours - all WE wanted was a drink! Hic.
