Neeson to face King's Asylum...

Irish actor Liam Neeson is to star in the new film by Horror author Stephen King. King has adapted another writer's work for the screen for the first time and written the script for Asylum, based on Patrick McGrath's novel about an English mental institution where the superintendent's wife falls in love with a murderous patient.

Jonathan Demme, the Oscar-winning director of The Silence of the Lambs, is to direct the film, which will star Neeson and his wife Natasha Richardson.

Neeson is currently filming Harrison Ford's latest film, the cold war extravaganza K-19:The Widowmaker, despite protests from Soviet submariners. The story is based on the experiences of crew members who survived a 1961 nuclear submarine disaster. They claim the British-owned production company, Intermedia, does not have the rights to their stories and complain the script has the technical details wrong. "It portrays our crew as a bunch of stupid, disrespectful, eternally drunk Soviet sailors who played cards as the alarms were sounded," a former crew member told Daily Variety.

The film, which co-stars Liam Neeson, tells the story of a reactor malfunction that crippled the K-19 on its maiden voyage. The accident left the Soviet Union's first nuclear-powered ballistic sub and its crew stranded in the North Sea. Only a few survived.
