Branagh's
acting freezes up...
Belfast born actor Kenneth
Branagh braved bitter cold and physical danger
for his role as Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton
in a made-for-TV film to be shown by Channel 4.
Filmed
in Iceland and Greenland, the production also called
for Branagh and the crew to spend six weeks on an
icebreaker in the Arctic Ocean.
"We
were shooting on ice floes so occasionally we had
to get off them very, very quickly as they broke up
underneath us," says Branagh in an interview
in Los Angeles.
"It was very, very cold and physically very challenging
but it lent terrific authenticity to the piece."
