Gabriel Byrne's an Angel to his mother...

Movie megastar GABRIEL BYRNE made a mercy dash from New York to Ireland last week to be at the bedside of his seriously ill mum. The Dublin born Stigmata and End Of Days star discovered his beloved mother was sick, and might not survive according to reports in the press.

So, like a true professional, Gabriel performed in a matinee of his Broadway play A Moon For the Misbegotten last Wednesday, and then high-tailed it for the airport, and got a flight home. The audience ever knew the enormous stress he was under no doubt and within hours he was at his mothers bedside in Galway.

Like a chapter from a Hollywood movie, Mrs Byrne regained consciousness while her idol son was at her bedside. "Gabriel, you need a haircut," she told the 50 year old straight-away.

The actor was then assured by his mums doctor that she was out of danger. So, after spending a couple of hours with her, he got airborne again and was back in New York on Thursday. Gabriel was in time for that evening's performance of the play despite nursing a double dose of jet lag.

Columnist Liz Smith in the New York Post reported the whole story. "Talk about a trooper - this guy is one for the books," she wrote - boosting Gabriel's enormous sex appeal yet again. He is already a renowned hunk, and has won wide spread critical acclaim as an actor - especially his recent role in A Moon For The Misbegotten.

And Gabriel is a dad in a million. He has moved from his Beverly Hills home to New York so he can be near his two kids Jack and Romy by his former wife Ellen Barkin. And he gave is blessing to Ellen's marriage to billionaire make-up tycoon Ron Perelman.

Byrne s also expected to be home in Ireland within the next few weeks. With his play finishing in New York the star could be home by the end of the month.
