Bruckheimer & Schumacher to do Irish Guerin pic...

Hollywoods biggest producer JERRY BRUCKHEIMER is teaming up with director JOEL SCHUMACHER for Chasing the Dragon, another version of the story of Irish journalist Veronica Guerin. Bruckheimer, known for his big-budget blockbusters such as The Rock, Con-Air and Pearl Harbour, hopes to start filming in Dublin early next year.

He is basing the script on an article in GQ magazine called The Martyrdom of Veronica Guerin. Guerin, an award-winning journalist, was slain in 1996 by drug dealers about whom she had written a series of stories.

"Veronica Guerin was a totally unique human being, a complex character who took on the Dublin drug lords and paid the price of her life," Schumacher told the Hollywood Reporter. "She was young and sexy and the mother of a small boy. They murdered her in cold blood in the middle of the afternoon. This is a great story and a great role for an actress in her mid-30s."

A fictionalised film version of her story, called When the Sky Falls and starring JOAN ALLEN, was released earlier this year.
