After month of gossip the Welsh band The Stereophonics are to play this years Slane concert on August 24th.

Supporting the band will be the America rockers Nickelback, Doves, Counting Crows and The Revs.

The Stereophonics were in Dublin yesterday for the announcement of the lineup and even received two awards for the work in Ireland this year.

In Dublin's Four Seasons Hotel they were presented with the Meteor Irish Music Award which they won in March for the Best International Band.

Speaking at the launch the Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones told ShowBizIreland.com, "You look at the legends who've headlined Slane and I think festival-wise, it's one of the biggest deals around and we're absolutely thrilled to be doing it."

Slane Castle owner, Lord Henry Mountcharles said, "We needed somebody really special to follow U2 and we've got that with the Stereophonics who are a world class live act. I've seen them several times and they've never failed to deliver a stunning live show. I'm delighted about the quality of the support bill, which MCD assembled. There's always a sense of anticipation surrounding the festival and I think the 21st Anniversary of concerts at Slane Castle is going to be extra special."

Tickets will be priced at 49.50 (including booking fee) and will go on sale at 9am on Saturday June 15th.

Tickets can be purchased from any of the 72 Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.
